Life Just Outside The Brentwood Gates

Brentwood is perfect. Why would you ever want to leave this astonishing campus? As beautiful as this grand campus is, every student wants some time out. School work builds tension and strain, so sometimes a place is needed to just let go of everyday stress. Cue the Mill Bay Shopping Center; the best local place to get your mind off of school.

The Mill Bay Shopping Center has many nicknames created by students but ‘Uptown’ is what most people call it. Yes, ‘Uptown’ seems like a lavish name where you might find big-name brands selling their expensive products, but it is not that type of ‘Uptown’. There are shops here and there but most students get attracted to the vast world of Thriftys. Thriftys is a magnificent grocery store where any ravenous teen can get their hands on what they want when they’re hungry.

Want a place to grab a quick bite? Fast food restaurants like Subway, A&W, McDonald’s and Tim Hortons are all in arms reach of 560 peckish Brentwood students. Want to go to an actual healthy restaurant? Mill Bay Sushi is the place for you. Limitless sushi options with limitless sushi combinations; the only limit is the amount of currency you have in your pocket.

Other services ‘Uptown’ include nails, haircut, the dollar store, the library, the pharmacy, the medical centre, the x-ray and blood work lab, and three banks.

I asked a few veteran Brentonians about what they do in their spare time outside of campus and Liam O, Ellis ‘20 exclaimed that “I’ve been here since Grade 8 and I truly enjoy McDonald’s as I can always appreciate a nice ice cream sundae on a warm autumn day.” Furthermore, Declan S, Ellis ‘20 suggested that “Thriftys is where I reside most of the time, buying many different flavors of granola bars for a great price!”

I also asked a few new students about what they think about ‘Uptown’ and Sky S ‘22 says “It's Great! I get to buy so much candy without my parents knowing!” Steven G ‘22, Sky’s roommate, enthusiastically nodded his head in agreement at Sky’s statement. He too loves unsupervised candy.

If you're thinking about coming to Brentwood make sure you add ‘Uptown’ as an advantage when coming to this excellent school. If you are a new student, grab a friend and enjoy the wonders of the Mill Bay Shopping Center and relish your first taste of independence.
