Let the Games Begin!
Here at Brentwood, when it comes to our sports teams, the Winter Term is the busiest time of the school year. This last weekend, five of Brentwood’s six basketball teams were participating in tournaments, including our very own, the Brentwood Senior Girls Winter Shootout Invitational. This action-packed weekend was a great way to gear both staff and students up for the next two exciting weeks in the Brentwood community as Spirit Week arrives in support of our competitive teams as we host and take on other schools in multiple events!
Our Senior Boys Showcase Basketball game will take place today, January 24th, as our team, captained by Ian G, Rogers ‘19, challenges our biggest rivals, Shawnigan Lake School. “It’ll be a tough game, especially on the defensive side, but if we can run the floor hard for some easy buckets, I think we have a good chance” says Ian. “The team is looking forward to playing in front of the school with the spirit and support from both students and teachers.”
The following day, Brentwood’s Junior Boys Basketball team will be hosting the Brentwood Challenge Basketball Tournament, which carries over to Saturday, January 26th, with the Showcase Final tipping off at 5:30 in the Foote Athletic Center. This year, the Juniors are an extremely athletic, talented, and cohesive team with incredible potential, and we are excited to see them in action on their home court!
Saturday, January 26th also brings the annual Saville Showcase game, held at Kerry Park Arena. Rival programme, St. George’s from Vancouver, will be facing off against our Senior Hockey team. “It’s my favourite game of the year” says Lindsay W, Allard ‘19. “It’s going to be my last Showcase game in a Brentwood jersey, but I’m looking forward to making it a great one.” The hockey team has been dedicated to training since September and is eager to demonstrate how it will pay off on home ice.
Spirit Week, which actually takes course over two weeks, continues as we once again host our biggest rivals, Shawnigan Lake School, this time, for the Senior Girls Basketball Showcase Game on Tuesday, January 29th. The team has been working extremely hard in preparation for the final league game of the year before playoffs begin, and are looking to come out on top heading into the postseason.
Finally, to conclude Spirit Week, Brentwood will be host to the Senior Boys Countdown to Playoffs Basketball Tournament, which will also be held in the Foote Athletic Center from Thursday, January 31st through to Saturday, February 2nd. It will be a wonderful opportunity to see the boys battle some top teams before they begin their postseason journey.
We encourage you to join us here at Brentwood as we cheer on our competitive teams in their quests to victory! Everybody is welcome to come and enjoy some amazing sports, hosted in a stunning facility, which is home to an incredible community!
