Law 12 Rolls On

As the year continues to rush by, the students of Mr Bryant's Law Studies 12 course continue to move at an accelerated pace. The first term ended with us finishing the annual Mock Trial. Now that we have completed the criminal law unit, we will move onto government and constitutional law learning about the legalities and rights within our country.

Many students would agree that constitutional law is much more complex and difficult to understand than criminal law, however this does not stop students from staying engaged and focused during class. The fast-pace lecture style is a fan favorite for students as it keeps us talkative and helps verbalize our thoughts and questions. Reese V, Allard ‘22 says “The way Mr Bryant teaches really keeps my peers and me engaged. It's one of my favorite classes.”

The second term’s equivalent to the Mock Trial is the Constitutional Law Challenge. Teams of two or three compete against one another based on a case of a certain claim to Charter Rights violations. This year the students are studying the Keegstra case which is one of Canada's most famous constitutional law cases that travelled from a small town in Alberta all the way to the Supreme Court of Canada in Ottawa. Lucca P, Whittall ‘22 says “Even though the constitutional law is more difficult to understand, it really opens up my mind and helps me understand the legalities of my country. Mr Bryant has really opened up my mind to new perspectives from a legal standpoint.”

The second term at Brentwood is known to go by quickly and as the students of Law 12 will continue to work diligently with Mr Bryant's guidance, we will be moving into family law once this constitutional challenge has been completed. The work Mr Bryant puts in to make the class interesting and exciting is remarkable. The course’s good name is all thanks to Mr Bryant.
