Laughter on the 23rd Floor
In approximately two months a group of Grade 11 and 12 students will be performing this year’s senior play, Laughter on the 23rd Floor, and they will blow their audience away. Laughter on the 23rd Floor is based on Sid Caesar, the star of a weekly comedy show in 1953, and his writers, who maintain a running commentary on the writing, fighting, and wacky antics that take place in the writers’ room. Similar to Brentwood, the characters in this play are a family which will touch the hearts of everyone in the audience.
This play was chosen by Mr. Howe, Brentwood’s newest addition to the performing arts department, and the students who auditioned for the play. From years of experience in the performing arts, Mr. Howe has come to Brentwood to lead and to push our students to their maximum. In fact, this year’s rehearsal process is different than every other: each student had to have all of their lines memorized before rehearsals began after Winter Break and we have started researching, as well as working on their dialects since the beginning.
As the students came back from their breaks rehearsals began and the play has slowly been coming to life. “To start we play, gain inventory, and then we will build Laughter into the play we want it to be” Mr. Howe shared about the rehearsal process.
The annual Brentwood senior play will be filled with laughter, heart and will keep the audience constantly on their toes. The team is excited to share Laughter on the 23rd Floor with the Brentwood family and the greater community. This will be an unforgettable experience that no one will want to miss, so book your seats for April 11-14, 2018
