The Cowichan High School Hockey League was treated to another display of puckish magnitude on January 13th as the Brentwood Senior team took on Francis Kelsey at Kerry Park. The bubbling rivalry was highlighted by the debut of a new addition to an already star-studded Brentwood roster. WHL veteran Justin G, Ellis ‘16, laced up his skates for the first time as a Brentonian and showcased his talent.  Brentwood got off to a slower start than their usual stalwart standard, with lacklustre penalties given away by Tom HL, Rogers ‘16, and Garrison C, Whittall ‘16 early on. Conditions were rough on the ice, and the Zamboni certainly had its work cut out for it, literally.  Slap shots from long range riveted the boards and Brentwood made their intentions clear with an opening goal from Bennett K, Whittall ‘16, which was closely followed up by a stunning second one from Ethan B, Ellis ‘16. Kelsey used their physical stature to their advantage and managed to salvage two goals before the game had run its course. However, it was on this day that a star was born.  Xander A, Whitall ‘17 bundled in a third goal to give Brentwood the edge over their local rivals, but it was Keaton A, Privett ‘15 who looked on from the bench, ready to seize his moment. “He asked me for a goal. I gave him a Gino” promised this charismatic behemoth as he put blade and stick onto the hard surface, and in the dying embers of the game, executed a shot of such venom that even the dimples of Headmaster Bud Patel managed to raise a few inches. A relentless Kelsey counter-attack was short-lived and broken down to rubble in their own end. It took a sharp eye from the 240 pounder to elegantly pounce on the loose puck, and an effort of unparalleled skill to find the back of the net.  This fourth Brentwood goal cemented victory. A sigh of relief was shared by all as the buzzer sounded to signify yet another Brentwood victory. “It was a sound performance all around and Keaton’s snipe was the icing on the cake” proclaimed Captain Jack HL, Rogers ’15.  Robbie S, Privett '15
