Junior Rugby Opens Season

6 April 2011
The Junior boys started the season with some positive play against very good opposition this week. Our first game of the season was against the Alberta Selects and we controlled play in the first half. Dan E made some great breaks and dominated the attack at the fly half position. Austin G and Toby D were very solid in defense and at the half time whistle the score was 7-0 BCS. In the second half, after multiple substitutions, the Alberta team took over and the end result was a respectable loss, 22-7, to a very good provincial team.

The second game of the season was against the always athletic and skilled Oak Bay Barbarians. The game began with some back and forth tough-running rugby where Davin K scored a hard nosed try and Dan E managed to dart over the line off a penalty close to their line. At half the score was 10-7 for BCS. In the second half, Oak Bay surged forward with expansive rugby using their very fast outside backs and managed to get up 17-10. In the last few minutes of the game, led by Calvin S, our lads scored a try off of very good forward play. The boys unfortunately ran out of time and the end result was a close 17-15 loss.

The coaches are very pleased with the team’s efforts and improvements at this early stage in the season. We’ll have intense training this week to prepare for our next match against valley rivals SLS on Thursday April 14th.
