Junior Girls ISA Silver

30 January 2018
Jim Ganley
The Junior Girls Basketball team had considerable success this weekend at the ISAs in Victoria. Led on offense by Rae W, Alex ‘20 and Emma E, Allard ‘20 and with tenacious D from Desola O, Hope ‘20 and Janessa P, Mackenzie ‘20 the team outscored Stratford Hall then West Point Grey on Friday to advance to the Gold medal game. Saturday brought the tournament final against Collingwood. The girls battled hard, but could not overcome the Cavaliers’ inside game. Our squad left it all on the court and departed with their well-deserved silver medals. Bruised by unbowed, the girls enjoyed some free time Saturday afternoon in downtown Victoria before heading to UVic to watch the Vikes plays Mount Royal University. The women’s game was a barnburner of intensity, outside shots, tough D, and strong drives to the hoop. UVic overcame a late surge from the Cougars to take the win.  Thanks to Ms Mackenzie for giving up so much of her weekend for the girls’ development and fun. This week brings the Mid-Island playoffs and, of course, the Senior Girls Showcase Game against Shawnigan tonight at 7:30 in the Woodward Sportsplex. Check the Brentwood youtube for live streaming if you can’t make the game. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mr1sht2ybBo
