The Junior Girls Field Hockey team had a fabulous ISA tournament last weekend. The team is a combination of girls from the Development and 2nd XI teams in grades 8-10.

It was flooding with rain when the Junior Girls started the game, but every player still actively dedicated themselves to playing against Shawnigan. Their team had incredible forwards and they attacked us with with strong, quick movements. Unfortunately, we ended with a hard-fought loss.

The next morning, whilst all the other students slept in, the Junior Girls woke up early and got ready for another battle against Shawnigan. No matter how many times we got knocked down, we got back up again. With only a few minutes left in the first half, Amy P, Mackenzie ‘22 smashed the ball into the goal and Brentwood got a head start against SLS, 1-0. Just a few moments later, another goal was made, 2-0 for Brentwood.

In the second half, our players were incredibly energetic with the excitement of the score, putting us in the lead. We displayed fabulous teamwork by putting strong defenders at the back, active forwards in the front and athletic mid-field players to support our front lines. Sadie P, Allard ‘23, our centre mid-field player, passed the ball to the forwards, who scored another goal for Brentwood, 3-0. “I am very glad that I am a part of the team and enjoy playing field hockey,” said Amber L, Mackenzie ‘22.

Finally the ISA tournament came to an end, the rain still pouring down. We finished third place in our pool. Even though the Junior Girls Field Hockey team did not win the tournament, it showed us the importance of teamwork and resilience, making the field hockey season even more intriguing and exciting. “It was a great tournament for me because I got to know more people in other grades. I had a chance to show my skills and have healthy snacks after every game!” said Baya I, Hope ‘23. What a well thought out conclusion to the tournament along with some post-game snacks for the team.
