Junior Girls Basketball
This year in Junior Girls Basketball we started with many inexperienced but hardworking players. The season began at Dover Bay in Nanaimo. Even though we faced tough competition, we worked hard and showed tremendous determination in both games. Considering this was the first time we had played together, it was a challenge to play as a team. At the end of the day the team may not have gained the results we wanted, but we walked away with a hunger to do better.
Slowly but surely, we started to improve our skills and connect as a team by playing games against strong teams in the area such as Shawnigan & Lake Cowichan. Although these teams proved to be tough, we worked harder every game and learned the importance of teamwork and having each other’s backs on and off the court.
Long practices and many league games helped us get to a highlight of the season, the ISA tournament. We came out strong, winning our first game and then losing a close battle to Mulgrave. Throughout this game the team continued to play hard, playing better every quarter. Sadly, this was not enough to pull off a win and we lost 38-36. This knocked us out of the championship bracket but the team rallied and showed up the next day, played their game, and ultimately placed 6th, a giant improvement from the beginning of the season.
The girls could not have accomplished what they did without their two amazing coaches, Ms Tarrant & Ms Mackenzie. Not only did they give up their time to coach, but they also demonstrated patience and enthusiasm - even at the 7 o’clock games.
The Junior Girls basketball team not only showed their determination not to give up, but demonstrated tremendous heart on and off the court. Over the course of the season, even as injuries arose, the team continued to show up and give 100%, whether it was a practice or a tournament game. We can not wait for next season so we can continue to grow as a team and welcome new players to the program.
