Junior Colts Rugby 'A' 15-15 On Saturday, October 17th the grade 9 rugby squad traveled to Shawnigan Lake School and played two matches. The A squad enjoyed a back and forth battle where under the rainy conditions the ball handling was good and the defense was solid. The first half saw Henry P broke the line off a back row move to even the score at 5-5. SLS received a lucky bounce and scored a break away try the length of the field to go up 10-5. Near the end of the half Brentwood responded with a hard running try by Randall B and to tie the game at 10-10 at the half. The rain subsided and the sun came out giving us wonderful rugby conditions, the teams battled courageously back and forth with some bone crunching tackles being made by Austin G and Gavin S both defending well in the centers. Calvin S was all over the park and put the opposition under immense pressure. In the dying minutes of the game the boys put three phases of play together and managed to swing the ball out wide to newcomer Jonathan C who scored in the corner, to tie the game 15-15. The anticipation for the rematch has been building and we look forward to next weekend when we play SLS at home. Junior Colts Rugby 'B' 15-25 The Junior Colts B team played this past weekend at Shawnigan Lake School and although losing 5 tries to 3 showed great improvement overall. The boys got behind by 3 tries early in the game, but with a focused determination fought back and showed commitment to defense. At the end of the first half it was 3 tries to 1. In the second half the boys started to move the ball and tied their opponents 2 tries apiece. All fifteen players battled their opponents showing a lot of heart and a willingness to work on improving their individual skills. All of the boys are eagerly awaiting the rematch scheduled for this weekend.
