Junior Boys Soccer: Tournament Triumph

14 April 2008
Paul Collis
Brentwood's Junior Boys soccer team continued their perfect season — now 5-0-0 — by picking up some weekend hardware: the Mid-Island Tournament trophy.  The day began with ten teams all in pursuit of one goal: our region's lone berth in the Island tournament.  That berth comes down to one game, when the eventual league winner hosts the tournament winner in a challenge final on May 4.  Brentwood is guaranteed to be in that final by virtue of this weekend's triumph.  The day began with a comfortable victory over tournament newcomers George Bonner school.  The lads followed that with a gritty 1-0 decision over perennial talents Gulf Islands to put them into the title game against local rivals Kelsey, who ousted Shawnigan Lake in the other semi-final.   Kelsey were physically intimidating, but unable to run with the fleet strikers Jordan deGraaf (Grade 8) and Matt Lee who punished them for two goals in our first ever tournament victory under Mr. Collis' tenure.
