Junior Boys soccer team wins local derby

Brentwood's Junior Boys soccer team started their league campaign in style on Tuesday, beating local rivals Shawnigan Lake 2-1.  Both of our goals were the result of Pablo Cristobal's — a Grade 8 playing against Grade 10s — thundering shots from over 25 yards out.  His second goal flummoxed the keeper allowing Jordan De Graaf — another Grade 8 — to poke in the rebound.  The sonic boom from Pablo's first shot still echoes around Mill Bay; it could still be in the air for all I know, so powerful it was.  We have since repaired the fiery hole it left in the net, and the local burn unit says that Shawnigan's keeper is healing nicely.  The boys will be at it again on Thursday against Duncan Christian and then on Saturday when we host the mid-Island tournament.
