On Saturday, April 18th Brentwood’s Junior Boys Rugby team traveled to Vancouver to face off against St George’s. St. George’s has the reputation of being a fierce and skillful competitor when it comes to the rugby pitch; the boys knew it was going to be a challenging match. Winning the flip, we decided to receive the kick off.  With a newer team, we played to our strengths, phase play. Brentwood inched the ball forward until an unlucky turnover gave St. George’s the upper hand and a try. With their momentum, Saints was able to put ten more points on the board leaving them with 15-0 at halftime. With positive feedback on the game from our coaches at the break, Brentwood’s Matthew M was able to break the defensive line and get the ball under the post, and leave us with a nice conversion. However, our opponents still had their heads high and used their force to put points on the board even after heavy defense from the Brentwood side. The match ended 32-7 for St. George’s. Though a disappointing loss, the boys were able to stay in the game until the final whistle blew. The game did not have the outcome we were hoping for, but we were able to put our best foot forward and walk away knowing what we will have to do in order to improve and prepare for our next match.
