Junior Boys Rugby

The Junior Boys Rugby program at Brentwood is one of prestige. Many great players have passed through our junior program, up to the senior team and onto the international stage. For the juniors, the core of our work is about skill development, the goal of every player on the junior team is to someday earn a spot on Brentwood’s First XV.

This year, a team of 31 junior boys took to Gillespie Field to show grit and joy and work through the varying conditions of the West Coast spring in a season like none other.

Due to the COVID-19 mitigation strategies, the heavy hitting nature of the sport was left out, replaced with the equally menacing pool noodles and flag belts. While a game winning flag grab is not as exhilarating as a tackle of the same sort, this year’s team showed an amazing amount of perseverance as they moved through the term.

The Junior Boys Rugby program would like to give a huge thank you to our coaches, Mr Branchflower and Mr Flynn. Their installation of the core values of Brentwood rugby into this junior squad is sure to help this program continue to flourish in the years to come.
