Junior Boys off to Island Championships!

15 February 2011
A great season continues to get better for the Junior Boys’ basketball team. While the rest of the school was off on midterm break, the boys hosted the six teams that make up the mid-island zone in a playoff to determine the lone representative to the Island Championships.

After finishing second to Gulf Island Secondary during the regular season, Brentwood drew a tough Cowichan team in the opening game of the tournament. Through inspired defensive play and hot shooting by Jordan C, Brentwood prevailed 56-39 and set up a rematch against the Gulf Islands Scorpions in the gold medal match.

In a tight struggle between two evenly matched teams, Brentwood pulled away in the fourth quarter to win 60-50. Austin G and William L played great defense and Tim L had an important 11 points. As has been the case all year, our juniors were led by the always intense and hardworking Shalev S and the silky smooth shooting touch of Jordan C, who averaged 32.5 points per game.

The boys now advance to the Island Championships in Victoria on Feb-17-19 to contend for a spot in the provincial championships hosted by SMUS March 4-5.
