Junior Boys' Basketball Signs Off

22 February 2011

The Island Championships did not play out as we would have hoped, but I felt we played very hard in our opening round game against the eventual second place team. On Thursday we played Claremont in their gym with a large crowd backing them. We came out a little tentatively and it felt like we were playing the whole game from behind. We managed to cut the lead to three with under a minute to play but could not secure a rebound off of a free throw and Claremont was able to run out the clock. The loss put us on the backdoor side of the draw where we played a much improved Pacific Christian team that had just upset two strong teams in the Victoria playoffs.

We picked a bad day to have our worst game of the year. Unfortunately, relying on Jordan Charles for the majority of our scoring hurt us on this day. Jordan was fighting foul trouble all game and he would eventually foul out with six minutes to play and the game tied. We would eventually lose by four points and our team was very disappointed in not having a chance to move on in the tournament.

The team can take solace in knowing that they had one of the finest seasons ever for a Brentwood Junior basketball team, going 5 and 1 in league play and coming second in the North/South Challenge Tournament as well as the ISA Championships. The juniors also defended their title at the Mark Isfeld Ice Tournament. The boys should be proud to be a part of the basketball program that they are helping to build at Brentwood.

Many thanks go to my assistant coach Darcy Kulai. We will be back next year!
