Junior Boys Basketball Headed to Provincials

22 February 2015
Mr. Liam Sullivan, Coach
The Brentwood Junior Boys Basketball team made a little bit of history over the weekend. By coming in third at the Vancouver Island Championships, the boys became the first junior boys basketball team in the history of Brentwood to make a provincial championship.  The weekend started out rocky with a heartbreaking one point loss on Thursday night to eventual second place Nanaimo District Secondary. Things improved the next day when the boys beat Wellington Secondary 73-47. This set them up for a match-up against one of the top teams on Vancouver Island, perennial powerhouse Oak Bay from Victoria.  A suffocating defense, and some timely shot making, set the boys up with a chance to win the game late in the contest. Aaron S made a great pass to Casper P who was fouled and went to the free throw line with .5 seconds on the clock and Brentwood trailing 43-42. Casper stepped up to the line and calmly connected on both free throws to seal the victory and put Brentwood in the 3rd/4th game later in the afternoon. Playing against SMUS for third place, Brentwood put on a clinic of defensive basketball, holding the Victoria city champs to 25 points in the game while tallying 61 ourselves. Casper P was rightfully named to the All-Star team for the weekend, but this was a true team effort. It has been an incredible experience watching this group of young athletes mature into a cohesive and balanced team over the course of the season. Now it is off to the Langley Events Center to play against some of the top teams in the  province. Liam Sullivan, Coach
