Junior A Volleyball: Top AA Team at Islands
This past weekend, the Junior A Girls (Mid-Island champions) traveled to Mount Doug to participate in the Island Championships. In the round robin, the team went to three sets with NDSS (North 1) and Lambrick Park (South 2) before beating Claremont in two straight sets to finish third in their pool. In the quarters, the team faced eventual finalists, Dover Bay. The girls came out flat and quickly found themselves down 8-17. They did not, however, give up; they clawed their way back to an exciting 25-23 first set win. After dropping the second set 23-25, the girls led the third set 8-7 at the break but were not able to hold on and lost 11-15.
The team concluded the tournament with straight set victories over Belmont and Lambrick Park (25-18, 25-12), a team they had lost to twice during the season. The win over Lambrick secured Brentwood the ranking of 5th best junior volleyball team on the Island and the top AA team. For her outstanding play, left side hitter Emily Y was named a tournament all-star.
