Junior A Field Hockey Strikes Silver

The Junior A field hockey team travelled in high-spirits to Shawnigan Lake School on Tuesday, November 8th for the Island Championship Tournament. The bus ride went quickly due to anticipation; the bus was full of strategy talk.

Brentwood was one of five participating schools that bravely played a round-robin system of four games on this cold, windy, rainy fall day. The Junior A’s set foot on the turf at 8:50 for their first game against Francis Kelsey. They came out dominant with a 2-0 victory. The girls were very proud considering the last time they played this aggressive team they had lost 3-0.

Shawnigan was their next opponent. The girls played the best they have this season, almost scoring a goal, but ultimately losing 3-0. Next, Queen Margaret’s School was an enjoyable game for Brentwood’s competitive girls. Everyone had a chance to have fun while switching up some positions. 3 goals were scored in the first 10 minutes of the game and Brentwood came out with an impressive 5-0 victory and a few bruises.

The very last game of Islands was against a very experienced Quamichan team. The game was nail-biting with a myriad of near scores. The teams, however, battled it out to tie 0-0.

Brentwood should be very proud of their Junior A’s because they brought home the silver plaque, a new Mexican cheer, and an even closer team bond. Captain Kelsey Sage led the team in an amazing season full of laughs, inside jokes, lessons learned, “interesting” cheers, and, most importantly, a few fun months of field hockey.

The star of the team, Mrs. Jane Jackson, is to be given all of the praise for putting up with us girls and mentoring us with her knowledge. Everyone on the team is truly grateful to acknowledge her as their coach; she has the amazing happy dance. Also, congratulations to every single member of the team for an impressive season!
