Jr. Boys Take Silver at Independent School Provincials!

17 January 2011
This past weekend the Brentwood Jr. Boys’ Basketball team finished a close second in the ISA championships. This tournament featured two of the top ten provincially ranked schools: St. Georges of Vancouver and Victoria’s St. Michaels.

After a comfortable opening round win against GNS in which all team members contributed energetically, Brentwood faced SMUS in the semi-final match and the boys played inspired hoops from the opening whistle. In front of a gym full of excited spectators, our boys demonstrated poise under pressure and kept the game close throughout, but it was not until Tim L scored the winning basket with 6 seconds left that Brentwood could realize that they had defeated the #2 ranked team in the province. Jordan C was brilliant, scoring 15 points despite being double teamed most of the game. Big contributions from Grade 9 post player Hayden F and point guard Shalev S were also evident. This win put the boys in the final against the always talented St. Georges Saints.

Despite falling behind early in the game, Brentwood fought back to keep it close and Jordan C hit a three point shot with 30 seconds to go to tie it up. Alas, St. Georges had an answer and their 6'5" post player stepped out to NBA range and hit the winning three point basket with only a few seconds left on the clock. The boys are to be congratulated on playing inspired and energetic basketball all weekend.

They hope to carry this momentum into the North-South Challenge Tournament which they will host this weekend, January 21-22 at the Brentwood sportsplex.
