Brentwood Junior Boys basketball team continues to put together consistent winning performances. January 29th-30th the team was in Courtenay playing in the Mark Isfeld Secondary Invitational tournament, against several tough teams from the North Island. In the opening round game, Brentwood handily defeated Lake Trail School 56-33. This win set up a semi-final against the #2 ranked junior boys team in the North Island zone: the Highland Raiders from Comox. Brentwood jumped out to a commanding 20 point lead only to have their lead cut to 3 points in the dying seconds due to some inconsistent play and foul trouble. The boys held on to win 54-51 and set up a trip to the finals to face Nanaimo District Secondary School. Brentwood came into the game a little tired and were down 7 points at half time. Some inspired play by David L and Jordan C along with great defense by Alex P and Martin B allowed the Brentwood team to take control in the second half and win the tournament with a score of 46-38. Coming off the tournament victory the Junior boys laced up their sneakers against perrenial powerhouse of the mid-Island: the Cowichan Thunderbirds on Feb 2nd at the Brentwood sportsplex. The boys displayed a great deal of heart and determination and David L contributed 25 points in a 54-41 victory. This is the first win against Cowichan for the juniors in a few years and it puts the boys alone in first place in league play with a  5-0 record, while improving their season record to 16 wins and 2 losses. The juniors will be playing Shawnigan on Saturday Feb 6th at 3pm in the Brentwood gym. Come out and support the boys!
