The Junior Boys Basketball team had another solid weekend of competition at the Mark Isfeld Ice tournament in Courtenay in early February. The first game of the tournament had the boys play against Alberni Secondary. Coming out aggressive from the beginning of the game, the boys were able to stake an early lead and cruise to victory. Players like Kavi G and Griffin F-R were able to get lots of action in the second half where they both showed great hustle and determination. The final result was 73-18 for Brentwood, which set up a rematch against Wellington Secondary who had beaten us in our own tournament the previous weekend.  This would be a different story as our boys came out determined and jumped to an early 20 point lead. The lead would get to as much as 34 points before Wellington surged late in the game to make the final 65-42. Aaron S had a very strong game scoring 23 points while Brendan S was able to contribute 15 points to the cause. This set up a final against NDSS from Nanaimo. The start of the game was not a good one for our team as we came out sluggish and were down 21-9 after one quarter. The rest of the game was an exercise in playing catch-up but unfortunately the boys could not come closer than 3 points down and were forced to foul late: NDSS came out on top 66-56. The boys will have to learn from their mistakes as we head into the stretch run of our season culminating in the Island Championships held at Brentwood from Feb. 19-21st. Mr. Liam Sullivan
