Our first ever game, tournament, and time working as a team, we were undefeated, winning all five games and not losing a single set - but it was not always easy.

The Junior B Volleyball team participated in the Duncan Christian Tournament after only having three practices. Some of our players had never even played in a game before but were lucky enough to get to learn some new skills while on the court. Getting on the court for the first time turned out to be more of a “get to know your team, and game” situation.

The first game was not the easiest of wins but once we got on a roll we really worked well together. The energy both on and off the court was infectious; there was never a quiet moment. Eliza P got some great hits in as the game went on, really putting us in a good lead.

By the second game we had figured out what would benefit us like setting up Lily S so she could hit a great down ball over the net. We were all still full of energy and ready to benefit from anything that could be thrown at us through the games.

After the pregame hype speech by our Co-Captains Annika M and Inara W, we were ready to take on Shawnigan Lake School. The game was tense, yet with the support of the entire team, we all played amazingly and ended in the lead. By winning our first three games, we qualified for the semifinals. The following game was similar to the others, full of energy and power; we had not lost a game yet, nor did we plan on it.

When it came time to play our last game, it was the final. We had spent eight hours in the Duncan Christian gymnasium, and our energy was on its last legs. Out of all games, this was the one we needed the most. We wanted to return to Brentwood saying that our first ever tournament was a clean sweep, and so we were determined to do just that.

Grit, determination, and encouragement is what got us through that tournament with a first place finish. We look forward to seeing how our team develops throughout the season.
