It’s Showtime!

On Thursday, April 28th the Brentwood Dance team performed three pieces at the Greater Victoria Performing Arts Festival, held at the University of Victoria’s Farquar Auditorium. Some were nervous while some were excited, but every dancer learned from this experience. The adjudicator gave excellent, encouraging comments to each class and the Junior Experienced team has been invited back to perform their piece entitled “Carousel” at the Highlights Concert on Monday, May 9th.  On Sunday May 1st, the BCS Elite dance crew travelled to the Cowichan Theatre to perform at the “Just Dance Challenge”. Two pieces were performed: Make it Bounce with Olivia B, Emma C, Katlan S, Kaya T, Lauren Y, choreography by Emma C and We Built This City with Olivia B, Emma C, Kara L, Katlan S, Kaya T, Caitlin W, Lauren Y, choreography by Ms Samantha Madge. Dance studios from Courtenay to Victoria were present, and hundreds of dancers performed.  Make it Bounce received a ranking of Elite Gold (85 – 89) while We Built this City received a ranking of Diamond (90 – 94). To top off the fantastic afternoon, “We Built This City” placed 1st in the Competitive Teen Small Group category. The entire crew was ecstatic about these results, and we drove back to school with a large piece of hardware to display.  This coming week, the Elite Dance crew performs again at the CORE dance competition at the Port Theatre in Nanaimo on May 5th. And to top off this wonderful year of dancing, our year-end show “Circus” will be performed by the entire dance team in on own T. Gil Bunch stage next week. The performances run from Wednesday, May 11th through to Friday, May 13th with the curtain at 7:30.  Lauren Y, Mackenzie '16
