Island Champions Part II

24 November 2016

The Senior Girls Volleyball team managed to go undefeated at the 2016 AA Island Championships. Along with our victory in 2015, this was a back-to-back championship for the girls.  The girls started out on Friday with pool play matches against GNS, Ladysmith and Lambrick. We convincingly dominated all three matches with 2-0 wins in every game. After a night of team bonding, the girls advanced to the semifinals on Saturday morning. The semifinals and finals were both five set matches. We defeated Pacific Christian 3-0 displaying confidence and full control over all sets then advanced to the final to face Qualicum Secondary. The girls showed determination and grit, managing to defeat their opponent 3-0. The team showed great leadership despite missing our Captain, Sarah Brown, due to an ankle injury as well as a similar setback to one of our setters, Cayley S. The senior girls missed having these two on the court and also felt the absence of Eva S, a Grade 11 defensive beast. We cannot wait for the full team to head into the Provincial Championships next Wednesday.  Thank you to coaches Jill Fougner and Mike Minckler for their coaching and mentorship through the season and for what’s to come!
