The Senior Boys Basketball team has had a great season so far. On our trek to the #1 AA ranking in BC, we have played 17 games against a wide range of competition. To mix things up a little, our coaches Mr Gage and Mr Sullivan decided to have an intersquad game last week.

The teams were split up evenly with Mr Gage coaching one team and Mr Sullivan coaching the other: Team Black (Gage) vs Team White (Sullivan). Four eight minutes quarters were played and, due to an injury, I was the referee. I’ll always wonder whether or not Mr Gage and Mr Sullivan throw down bets before the game.

The game began with Team Sullivan winning the tip as Phillip A, Rogers ‘22 took the ball from his opponents like he owned it. Cannon F, Rogers ‘22 quickly responded with two sharp jumpers to take a lead. Shortly later Philip mentioned something about a “Super trifling call” as I called a blocking foul. Nathan O, Privett ‘22 made the declaration that “Sajeev is one of the worst refs on the Island” due to his anger caused by his not going to the free throw line once the entire game. Refs are seldom appreciated!

Both teams battled hard and the game came down to the wire. With five seconds left the ball was thrown to Nathan: he bricked the shot horrendously, an unusual feat for one of Brentwood’s best sharpshooters. Karma for the ref!

The game ended with Team Sullivan taking the win. Once the game was over, both coaches huddled the teams together to give us tips on how to improve for the future. The road ahead of us is long and tough but it’s going to come down to how hard we can push ourselves physically and mentally. The season is going by quickly meaning the games are getting harder and harder. Nonetheless, we don’t have room for failure.
