International Recruitment

I am writing this from Malaysia.  I have just come from Japan,  Vietnam and Thailand and will be continuing on to Singapore and Indonesia on this trip.  Why is this significant? Let me explain. Brentwood has a significantly robust Canadian student population (74% of the student body) compared to many boarding schools. This is important for prospective students to know as they can trust that when they come they will have a ‘Canadian boarding experience’, not simply a boarding experience in Canada.  In fact, Brentwood’s school population is 85% North American so it truly is a boarding school with a firmly established tradition on this continent. So why do members of our Admissions team travel all over the world to recruit students?  The answer is simple: diversity. Our small but diverse international population comes from some 35 countries that span the globe. They come to us for many reasons, not the least of which is that they are confident that at Brentwood there will not be many other people from their own country.  Why is this a good thing?  Because they are coming to Canada for a Canadian boarding experience. We are a school of 460 students and verging on becoming the largest boarding population in Canada. One of the reasons we are so popular is that we do not have an ESL programme, and we do not have a great many students from overseas. This creates a school that people are seeking: extremely diverse but firmly North American in its culture.  It is a win-win for all of our students. So if you are looking for a boarding school, you should also look at the demographics of the school, as this will enable you to choose a school that is right for you and a good fit for what you are seeking in an education and in a social experience. Good luck and I hope to see you on the road!
