Interhouse Update: The Homestretch

27 May 2021

Three weeks to go. Three weeks of academics, three weeks of sport, three weeks of art, but far more importantly, only three weeks of interhouse competition remains. After fierce battles in interhouse rowing, tennis and spikeball, let’s take a look at where each team stands going into the decisive track & field competition.

Off the back of a strong performance in rowing and spikeball, Rogers/Allard has made up some ground in the standings, although they didn’t do quite enough to fight their way out of fourth place. With a first place in the girls’ category, second place in the boys’ category, and third place in the mixed category, Rogers/Allard achieved second place in spikeball to go along with their first place in rowing. It is undeniable that they are heating up at just the right time, and Alex/Whittall will have to be watching their backs as the season wraps up.

After third and fourth place finishes in rowing and spikeball respectively, Alex/Whittall will need a strong performance in the latter stages of the competition in order to maintain the gap between them and Rogers/Allard while also putting pressure on the top two teams. However, with strong candidates in the upcoming events, Interhouse Captain Noel P, Whittall ‘21 is confident that his boys and the Alex girls will get the job done: “The guys and girls are ready to perform and I’m fully confident that we will be breathing down the necks of Privett/Hope when it’s all said and done.”

Unsurprisingly, and to the dismay of many, the top of the leaderboard looks all too familiar, with Mack/Ellis leading the way and Privett/Hope not far behind. Unfortunately for those looking for an intense finish to the year, Mack/Ellis did nothing but strengthen their grip on the title during interhouse spikeball, with victories in the boys’ and mixed categories and a second place in the girls’ category. Privett/Hope were unable to keep up the pace, tying for third overall in the competition with Alex/Whittall, despite needing a big performance to catch up to Mack/Ellis after finishing fourth in interhouse rowing compared to an impressive second for Mack/Ellis. Looking for her house’s third successive victory since her arrival, Emily P, Mackenzie ‘22, is both hopeful and confident going into the final month: “Ever since I’ve been here, Mack/Ellis has been dominant, and it’s pretty clear to me that it’s not going to stop this year.”

With eyes now turning to the extremely important track & field competition, each house will be gearing up and rigorously preparing to make one final push as Mack/Ellis looks to continue to pull away and secure an unbelievable fifth consecutive title. As Yogi Berra once said, “It’s not over ‘till it’s over.” This competition is far from settled and you won’t want to miss it.
