This year's Interhouse Rowing took place on the 8th of May. Students could show their outstanding rowing skills and even though there were a bunch of varsity rowers, most of the volunteer competitors had never stepped in a rowing shell before they arrived at Brentwood.
Doing something you have never done before in the ocean, in front of hundreds of people, as a competition, can be scary indeed, so a big shoutout to these students for stepping up and supporting their house.
It started with the Grade 8s showing their skills on the water. This was not part of the interhouse, but was very fun to watch.
The official interhouse races started with the Junior Boys 1x. It was a very intense, tight race with Connor P, Whittall ‘23 winning. He shared his post-race thoughts: “It was a lot of fun. The opportunity to represent my house in front of the whole school is a really cool opportunity and privilege. Interhouse rowing also let me watch and cheer on the people I live with while they show off their skills. This is something that I really enjoy.”
Following this was the Junior Girls, Senior Boys and Senior Girls 1x, then the doubles. Overall, there were eight races.
Grace D shared her thoughts: “Everyone was extremely supportive and encouraging even though it was my first time racing, and everything was super organized.”
After the rowers had completed all the events, the competition ended with the erg relay. This might have been the most intense erging competition I have ever seen. Each house put all of their energy into cheering on the people participating, and the people erging put all the power they had into getting their house first. In the end, Mack/Ellis was first.
A huge congratulations also to Allard/Rogers for winning Interhouse Rowing. Thank you to Ms Biesenthal, Mrs McLean and the entire SAC team for organizing such a fun and exciting event.
