On Saturday January 30th, one member from each of the eight houses joined together in Brentwood’s Foote Athletic Center to compete in one of the most thrilling events this year: Interhouse Rap. After the Dodgeball tournament was finished, all members participating in the rap battle, along with their supporting house members, circled together around the center of the gym - in cohorts of course - to witness this thrilling event.

Each house had its original rap song written by a house member. Performers were also given a series of words that they had to include in their song. For example, one of the mandatory words was ‘citrus’. The Interhouse Rap event really opened up a new area of creativity. Gavyn K, Privett ‘22 said “Writing the lyrics for the song was extremely fun and it allowed me to be super creative. I definitely enjoyed this event.” Fabian H, Whittall ‘22 was watching from the crowd and mentioned “This interhouse event was one of the most memorable ones so far. Watching everyone perform and cheering on my house rapper was a lot of good fun.” The performance was judged by fan favorites, the notorious father-son duo of Mr Collis and Mr Collis Handford.

Interhouse this year has been challenging with COVID-19 mitigation strategies in place. Many regular Interhouse sports events are unable to happen because of the current rules. It’s always nice for the SAC to put together events like Interhouse Rap and Dodgeball that are just as great. It’s awesome to see the Brentwood community able to have these amazing events for the students and staff to take part in.

It’s now just past half way into this year and there’s still so many more interesting events on the way. We’re excited for what’s to come next.
