In A BEAT

BEAT had another very successful year as we had lots of reps wanting to take action - and make fun events for the whole student body to enjoy - all while raising environmental awareness within the Brentwood community.

Throughout the year we had fantastic activities starting with a clean up at Somenos Marsh, followed by soup-making for the CMS Food Bank. We had a team bonding activity where we went out for a nature walk and we all had a beverage from an amazing local coffee shop. On the beach, we hosted a bonfire which had an amazing turnout where we had smores, hot chocolate and marshmallows.

Some other amazing initiatives that the BEAT reps came up with this year were prescription bottle recycling and tennis ball recycling which were amazing ideas that we hope to carry on in the future. During Kindness Week we had a card-making activity for Valentines Day followed by the BEAT scavenger hunt that was first introduced last year. Two members from each house were chosen to participate. They answered questions to receive the waste from our volunteers and then they sorted the waste and the team with the best time and fewest errors won. It was a big win for Roger / Allard!

BEAT also made an initiative to reduce the amount of prep snack waste and made a list of what students would like to eat for prep snacks so there would be less waste of food. The BEAT reps also went out for an adventurous beach clean up on a Sunday afternoon - there was quite a bit more garbage than we expected.

This year would not have been this much of a fun and as successful without the amazing BEAT reps and our wonderful teacher sponsor, Mr McCarthy. I want to thank them all for this fantastic year and the support and contributions you have made to the BEAT.
