Howard Named Oxford Stroke

13 March 2013
Brentwood Graduate and Canadian Olympian Malcolm Howard, Ellis ‘01 was named the stroke of the Oxford 8+ for the 159th rowing of the Oxford/Cambridge Boat Race on March 31st. Malcolm, who last spoke to the school in September 2012, won gold in Beijing 2008 and silver in London 2012 as part of the Canadian eight, and is now attending Oxford studying biochemistry.

"The boat race has always been a goal of mine," Howard, a Harvard grad, said. "It is one of the greatest collegiate competitions in the world. I am honoured to have the chance to take part in a race with such tradition."

“Malcolm has been a major contributor to the success of the Canadian rowing team for many years, and we congratulate him on his role with the Oxford Boat Race crew,” said Peter Cookson, Rowing Canada High Performance Director.
Malcolm follows Brentwood graduates Scott Frandsen, Morgan Crooks and Mike Moran as competitors in this incredible event. First raced in 1829, the Boat Race is one of the oldest and most grueling sporting events in the world.
