Hope House Springs Eternal

23 July 2021

After the 2020 Spring Break that never ended finally ended, Hope House was more than ready to welcome our pack of rambunctious returners as well as our 22 wide-eyed newbies. Despite all the rules to stay on our dots & restrictions on hugs, Hope quickly became the same house I’ve always loved.

Our house values moved from the walls of the common room into our community. No matter the highs and lows we’ve experienced, Hopelings have managed to pull together and create stronger bonds than I have ever seen in the house. The giggles and mayhem that the juniors have caused over the past year has certainly left every individual with memories engraved in our hearts - you have been the glowing centre of the house. Grade 11s: you got this, and I am beyond proud to see how much you have all grown this year; I am confident that the house will be in good hands. As the year comes to a close, I give praise to the Prefects, the glue of the house, the most tenacious people I know, the incredible individuals who never cease to amaze me. Although the future may be uncertain, all we can hope is that someone finally gives Julia a defaulter.

To the Hope staff who have supported us through it all, providing us with words of wisdom and humour through our trials and tribulations, thank you. Without you, we would be dragonflies lost without a sense of direction.

We have had our fair shares of dance parties, movie nights, ice cream cakes, “secret” hugs, mad sprints for sign in, and turning the hair of residential staff pink. From ice skating to raising money, cheering each other on in interhouse to lending a shoulder to others, Hope has never lost track of what means the most: each other.

Hope, you have been my home for the past four years but it is now time to bid adieu. Thank you for showing me that family can be found, my own ohana. Like the Grinch, my heart has grown three sizes. Hopelings: stay kind, never back down, and lead with your hearts.
