Hockey Season Off to a Good Start at Brentwood

11 December 2009
As we start the Christmas break, the players and coaches are pleased with the start to the hockey season. The program this year has 52 student athletes involved and Brentwood is pleased to ice teams at the Senior and Junior levels.  The program consists of players from all four grade levels and this year there are seven female players involved. The season started with both teams winning their opening games.  The Brentwood juniors defeated Queen of Angels School 9:3 and the seniors defeated Shawnigan Lake School by a score of 6:2. Both of the Brentwood teams competed very well showing a good deal of skill and hockey sense. In the second round of games, the teams were compromised due to exams and health issues. The junior team travelled to Chemainus and faced a very speedy and skilled team and came out of the game on the short end of the stick.  Playing on the same day, the senior team called up a number of the best juniors and took on the team from Frances Kelsey. Being down 3:1 early to Kelsey, the team stayed with the game plan and came back to win by a score of 5:3. The team showed heart and determination. The goaltending of Connor M was excellent. The teams will return from the break and have a very busy January and February with practices and games schedules for the first week back. In an effort to broaden the competitive opportunity for our players, the school will be taking a team to Prince George in mid-January for four games. The 11th Annual Ross Cup tournament will take place late in February after the Olympic Break. The players have competed well in practices and in games thus far and the coaches are appreciative of the skills and effort put forth by all of the players.
