Hockey in Calgary

On November 24th, the Brentwood Senior Ice Hockey team flew into Calgary for an exciting Springbank Hockey Tournament. The trip had been quite a journey, from rushing to the arena in SUVs to warming up on icy ground, the atmosphere had been quite different from what we were used to at Brentwood. However, the team was determined to take home the trophy and enjoy every moment with this special group of this year’s Hockey program.

The first night, we played against the Acadia Wolverines in an exhibition match to prepare for the big tournament starting the following day. Although there was plenty of room for improvement, the team showed great pride and resilience leading to a 7-1 victory. As coach Robinson always reminds us in the locker room, “We play with tenacity and class” - that is exactly what our team exhibited in our first game. We made great connections with the players from the other team and we were very excited for the upcoming games.

I would like to give a huge shoutout to our Captain, Ned B, Privett ‘23 who is, unfortunately, not able to play in this tournament as he suffered a torn MCL. As a teammate, it hurts to see Ned off the ice, as he always brings positive energy to our team. However, with his bright presence in the locker room and in the stands, the team was determined to leave everything on the ice to make him proud. Quinn B, Ellis ‘24 expresses his gratitude for Ned after the game: “ We are thankful that he is here with us cheering on the team. We owe it to him to take home the Gold.”

I am grateful for the opportunity the Brentwood Hockey Program has given me for the past four, exciting years. This year is my final one at Brentwood, so I am taking in every moment with the coaches and my teammates to build lifelong memories that I will never forget.
