Hit Me With Your Best Shot - Fire Away
I am normally a bit annoyed when students tell me that they are going to be missing my classes. I support their academic field trips, their athletics tournaments, and their arts trips, but there is some inconvenience in having to follow up with absent students and a certain degree of academic momentum feels lost.
Recently, however, I have been pushing students out of my classroom door - and insisting they not return until they have been well and truly shot.
Since British Columbia made vaccines available to children 12 years and older, 168 of our boarding students have signed up to get their vaccination at The Big Stick, The Cowichan Community Centre in Duncan.
Ian VL, Privett ‘21 who will receive his second dose in his hometown of Park City, Utah in mid-June, said “Door to door it was 90 minutes, way quicker and easier than I was expecting. And the pit stop at Starbucks was medicinal too.”
Hands are still being washed, masks are still being worn, we still sit in cohorts, have two separate lunch sittings, and will rearrange Closing Ceremonies to follow all provincial health guidelines, but it is also wonderful that our students are hopping on the vaccine bus.
Thanks to the transportation team for their work in making this all possible.
