Term 3 sports are always more fun because the sun is out and the skies are a bright, baby blue but while everyone is soaking up their Vitamin C, Hip-Hop kids are inside breaking it down with some mesmerizing moves. The Hip-Hop class was brought in last year and has been a great success; all three terms have been packed with enthusiastic students eager to become one with the dance floor. Mr. Simon, the Hip-Hop teacher, has been dancing for a long time and has done many tours in his dancing career. Off the top of his head he can list 7 different schools he has taught at and many are quite renowned. His words on Brentwood? “After all the blood, sweat and tears, I would definitely work here again!” Not only does Mr. Simon enjoy the course but the students do too! “I love to dance. I dance all the time; if I’m not dancing, I’m wiggling in my seat,” Ji Won K stated after an intense dance lesson.  “What’s not to like? We goof around, blast beats, and we get exercise!” was Joe X’s comment on this hip class. Only positive comments emerge from the class and why wouldn’t they? Not only do the students dance and listen to the latest music, they also get fascinating stories from Mr. Simon’s childhood and present life. The whole class is excited to see Hip-Hop become an art next year and they are, for sure, going to join as soon as arts selection becomes available. Hopefully we will see Mr. Simon again waiting to bust our butts on the dance floor for another year. My favorite quote from Hip-Hop was, “We laughed, and we danced, and we had a really, really, really good time” because everyone could agree that Hip-Hop was something to remember.
