Here comes the Sun!

Spring has arrived and the Brentwood fields, courts, and waterfront have been flooded with sunshine and a full array of sports action. On the fields, our boys and girls rugby teams are rounding into form and getting ready to gear up for the provincial championships next month. The junior boys rugby team has had some excellent results including a silver medal performance at the provincial 7’s tournament. The senior boys placed 7th at the provincial 7’s and our girls rugby team captured the school’s first provincial banner of the year winning gold at the provincial 7’s championship in Victoria! In soccer action, our junior and senior girls teams have been battling hard in league play and our senior girls are set to host the North Island Championship on May 4 & 5. On the courts, our tennis teams are hosting the ISA Championship right here at Brentwood and look poised to make another run to the provincial Championship later this month. On the water, our rowers represented Brentwood in fine form at last week’s 45th Annual Brentwood International Regatta. Brentwood finished first among all of the high school teams competing at the regatta and fourth overall. The event was a spectacular showcase for our school and a real tribute to the organizational skills of our Head of Rowing, Mrs. Debbie Sage. Our golf team is also off to a busy start and has had some strong showings at both the ISA tournament and the Vic City Police Tournament. While our competitive teams are fun to watch, our other programs are equally vibrant and engaging. Outdoor Pursuits has provided our students with amazing opportunities as they have immersed themselves in rock climbing and whitewater kayaking. Other students have been enjoying an eclectic mix of cross-country running, badminton, cross-training, yoga, squash, fitness fusion and weight lifting. The third term is, without question, our busiest athletic time of the year, but the blue skies and sunshine seem to create boundless energy and joy in our students. Any visitor to our school on a sports day is sure to be delighted by the activity and enthusiasm that pervades our campus – please consider yourself warmly invited!
