Last Saturday night a spirited sea of red-garmented students were bussed to the Kerry Park Arena. The crowd’s copious energy was in anticipation of Brentwood’s Showcase hockey game versus the visiting Saint George’s School.  Before the rivalrous game commenced, Mr Patel and Mr Flynn dropped the ceremonial first puck. The crowd showered Mr Flynn, an esteemed hockey coach and teacher, with cheers, as he will be retiring after this year.  This was an event where the fans entertained as much as the players, showcased by TSN costumes and countless crimson letters painted on torsos. The hockey players eventually took to the ice to warm up and before long the game had started! Saints took the upper hand early, but Brentwood responded with a well-placed shot to tie the game. In the contest Saint George’s looked to take the lead many times, but were seemingly always thwarted by Brentwood’s persistent forwards. Thanks to excellent offensive efforts by Luke W, Mason S, Luke H, and Xander A, Brentwood had tied the game up with three minutes remaining in the third period.  The crowd was roaring at the approaching reality of an overtime period when a Saint George’s forward stunned the arena with a dagger of a goal, giving Brentwood one minute to retaliate. The squad’s valiant attempt at an equalizer fell short, however, and the final buzzer sounded to the dismay of Brentwood’s supporters.  Regardless, everyone was treated to a fantastic game of hockey and our Brentwood team showed that it is more than capable of competing with high caliber opponents. Their supporters look forward to a successful season. Keiran MH, Rogers ‘17
