This weekend, Junior and Senior Men and Women rowers headed to Victoria to race at the Head of the Gorge and the Tail of the Gorge. Our crews encountered rapids through a narrow route under bridges, challenging corners, and two different courses over two days of racing - and it was the first regatta for a number of the Brentwood rowers.

On Saturday, our crews raced the Head of the Gorge, with the course measuring just over 4km. The day started with our boys racing on the first flight. The U17 Men's 8+ flew down the waterway with great technical lines and speed, securing a first-place finish. The U19 Men's 4x+ came down shortly after, earning victory in their event. With help from coaches on land to get the crews through the difficult passage for warm-up, our women's boats conquered the fast-flowing rapids warming up to get to the start of the course and then cruised down the narrow rapid passage towards the finish. Despite these harrowing conditions, the results were outstanding. The U19 Women's 8+ finished first, as did the U19 Women's 4x+. The first day of racing was filled with excitement and great success.

On Sunday, the rowers took on the Tail of the Gorge. This course was slightly shorter than Saturday's but presented interesting corners, which our coxswains handled efficiently. The U19 Women's 8+ finished first with a time of 11:11.35 and would have finished third in the university junior varsity women's event. The Women's U19 Women's 4x+ had a strong race uncontested. The boy's crew raced in the afternoon, finishing the weekend fast. We had two U19 Men's 8+, and they finished first and third. The last of our crews to finish was the U19 Men's 4x+, coming in first.

The weekend was filled with lots of laughs, lessons, shared memories and excellent results that we will carry into the rest of our fall training and the last of our fall regattas in Seattle. Thanks to Mr Ross for all his work and our coaches, Mr Carr, Mr McGuigan, Mr Hacker Teper, Miss Wittenberg, Mr Ward and Mr Wismer! We couldn't do it without you! Congratulations rowers!
