Hard Work Pays Off
The weather and water conditions were extraordinarily good for this year’s 56th annual Shawnigan Lake School Regatta. In heats and finals on both Saturday and Sunday, the Brentwood rowing crews did very well, winning seven events on the 2000 meter race course.
These victories included the Junior B men's novice double, Junior A men's pair, Junior A 63 kg women's four, Junior A women's four, and the Junior A men's four. The Varsity Girls’ Eight also had a tremendous accomplishment when they won their race with an astonishing time of 7:19.37. The Varsity Boys’ Eight defeated rival St. George’s in a startlingly close, but exciting race; there was a mere second separating the win that the Jr. A 8+ had over their competitors. This achievement was especially sweet considering their loss to them at the Brentwood Regatta.
For our rowing club this event was notably important because it will have an huge impact on whether or not some of our crews get selected for the national championships. There will be approximately forty rowers and five coaches heading off to St. Catharines in less than two weeks to compete in the Canadian Secondary Schools Association’s National Championships. We wish them luck.
