Happy Holidays From Alex House

22 December 2021

On Sunday, November 28th Alex House signed in early for the night and started pulling out the dusty boxes filled with lights, ornaments, tinsel, and other festive decor to give the house a splash of holiday spirit. As we only decorate the house once a year, we knew the effort couldn’t be lacking and our holiday jingles couldn’t be a single decibel below max.

Robin C, Alex ‘22 was in charge of the hot chocolate and cookie station and she made the night a whole lot less stressful by handing us cups and cookies whenever one of us seemed overwhelmed by the red and green tinsel flying around the hallways.

The night was seemingly perfect, but as the days went on, more and more colorful Christmas lights fell from the ceiling in the middle of the night startling the girls on specific floors. Ava T, Alex ‘24 reflects: “The lights keep hitting my door while I’m asleep and at first it freaked me out, but now I know it’s just my poor taping.”

It took just over two hours to transform Alex House into a home from Santa’s village, but it sure was worth it. The whole house can now enjoy a decorated Christmas tree with purple and silver ornaments, colorful glowing bulbs drooping from the roof, and a plethora of holiday-themed decorations.

Lauren K, Alex ‘22 says her favorite memory from the night was “decorating the Christmas tree in the foyer. Thank you to Ms Hall and Mr Langer for cutting down a real tree for us to enjoy.” Nothing beats the smell of a fresh balsam fir.

The night got quite emotional for the Grade 12s as Justine C, Alex ‘22 reminded us that it was our last time decorating Alex House for the holidays. As this is my last time too, I can confirm the feeling of singing classic carols while decorating our home away from home is something I will miss as the level of pure contentment cannot be matched anywhere else.

I wish everyone a well-deserved, restful holiday season.
