Hanukkah Celebrations

5 December 2013
Blair W
On Wednesday evening, the Brentwood food services staff produced a Hanukkah dinner hosted by many of the Jewish students on campus. Hanukkah, an 8-day celebration known as the Festival of Lights, commemorates the Israelites’ victory over the Syrians. After restoring their Holy Temple and menorah, there was only enough oil found for one day, but the lamp miraculously continued to burn for eight days. On the last night of this celebration, Brentwood produced a Hanukkah dinner with many Jewish delicacies like latkes, matzo ball soup, beef brisket and jelly donuts, while the Jewish students lit the menorah and taught their peers dreidel, a traditional children’s game. It was a great night of wonderful food and Jewish tradition! Thanks to the food services staff for a terrific and tasty evening. Blair W, Allard ‘14
