Hail halts Tennis Game Against Rivals

26 April 2011

For the past two weeks the senior tennis team has been training diligently to prepare for a home match, which took place last Tuesday, April 19th, against local rival Shawnigan Lake School. Unfortunately, halfway through the first set of matches, which began under beautiful sunny skies, a hail storm arrived.
Three matches were able to end in straight sets before postponing the league game. Our powerful singles players Andjela S and Conrad A both won their matches in straight sets, 6-0. Similarly, Mariana P and Tara V showed consistency throughout their game, with great footwork and dominant shots, also winning their match in straight sets.
Before the winter weather hit, Amanda M and Kirsty M had a good lead (4-2), while Andrew L and John B were also showing steadiness, up 3-2. Henryk S and Connor S, however, were faced with some tough opponents and were down 1-4. These three matches and the whole league game had to be postponed and will be continued on Tuesday April 26th, when the team makes its way up to Shawnigan.
Not only will the senior tennis team be finishing our first league game, but if the weather permits, we will also be able to play a second and final league game before Islands on Wednesday, May 11. Though both teams will move through to Islands, it is very important that we win the two league games so that we can secure the top seed, increasing our chances of making it to provincials.
Wish us the best of luck!
