I, along with the rest of the Brentwood family, would like to extend the warmest of welcomes to all of our new staff members for the 2015-16 school year! I know that not all students have new faculty members as teachers, but luckily I have had the chance to get to know Ms. Lumsden through long conversations about professional sports and countless hours of Pre-calculus 12 extra help. Ms. Lumsden comes to us from Selwyn House School in Montreal and she is currently teaching math courses as well as coaching our Senior Boys Soccer team, which is competing at Islands this week! Like Katniss Everdeen of her Halloween costume, she makes an impact! In the classroom, Ms. Lumsden is incredibly caring and has the amazing ability to make most math concepts make sense (and this is coming from a humanities girl). Needless to say, I know I speak for all when I say Ms. Lumsden is a mentor as well as a friend. When asked about her favourite aspects of Brentwood, Ms. Lumsden replied that she was very impressed by the kindness of our faculty, staff, and students, many of whom made her feel welcome and a Brentonian right away, her soccer team, and, of course, the beauty of the campus. But, who can blame her? We are all very aware of how lucky we are to live and work where we do. From talking to Ms. Lumsden inside and outside of the classroom, I have come to know how interesting of a person she truly is. This year is Ms. Lumsden’s first year in many of teaching girls (I don’t know how she managed without us!) and that she loves it! In addition, she is an avid sports enthusiast and loves to follow her favourite teams, including the NHL-leading Montreal Canadiens, on and off the field.
From an educational standpoint, math is just one of her many interests! In addition to teaching math here, she also loves other subjects and it looking forward to gaining an administrative position in the near future. We are all so happy you are with us, Ms. Lumsden, and I hope you have an amazing year! Audrey K, Alex ‘16
