Grad Dress-Up Day: Country Versus Country Club

17 February 2022

Flannels versus sweaters. Jeans versus khakis. Boots versus loafers. On Saturday, February 12, the Graduating Class of 2022 sported their best outfits to match the grad dress-up day theme: country versus country club. Instead of their number one uniforms, the Grade 12s could decide whether to throw on a cowboy hat or a tennis visor to attend Saturday’s classes.

“I have really been enjoying the grad dress-up days this year,” says Justine C, Alex ‘22. “It’s a great way to show spirit for our grade while wearing something fun.” Earlier in the year, the grad class organized Kindergarten Day, which has been a popular, nostalgic dress-up day theme of other grad classes in years past.

This Saturday’s dress-up day theme was unique because it was a two-in-one theme. The Grade 12s had the option to choose between a casual western look or a preppy one. Many students, hailing from Alberta, such as Justine and Lauren E, Allard ‘22 tapped into their country roots and wore jeans and a flannel shirt. The students who opted for the classy country club path could be spotted wearing polo shirts and tennis skirts with sweaters tied around their shoulders. Head Prefect Jacob H, Privett ‘22 rocked a yacht-style look with a polo and sandals with socks.

These dress-up days are important for the grad class to showcase their camaraderie and celebrate their last few months at Brentwood. “Grad is only a couple months away and grad spirit days help us celebrate these final months of high school and give the younger grades something to look forward to when their time comes” says Grad President Philip A, Rogers ‘22.

While it may seem unfair that the Grade 12s get to dress-up while the rest of us have to wear our uniforms, it is important to set this group of grads apart from everyone else once in a while because it allows the Brentwood community to recognize and appreciate all of their hard work that has led them to this point in the year. Good luck to all of the graduating seniors in this final stretch until third term and here’s to many more grad dress-up days this year!
