Golf Is In The Air

For the first time in two long years, competitive school golf is finally set to make a return in British Columbia. Brentwood’s team now has four tournaments on the calendar: three local and one shaping up to be quite the trip.

The first of these four tournaments is the annual ISA Championships held just up the road at Arbutus Ridge Golf and Country Club April 24 & 25. This tourney is only for independent schools throughout BC but includes a majority of the province's best players.

The next is the Victoria Policeman's event, held on May 4-5 at Olympic View Golf Club in Metchosin. This tourney includes schools from all over Vancouver Island where individual bragging rights are also up for grabs.

Back in 2019, I finished fourth in this event and Gavyn K, Privett ‘22 finished third, beating me by a single shot. Gavyn recalls the week as “the event where I really started feeling confident about my golf game for the 2019 season. Obviously I have higher expectations for this year's event and I feel like our group can win the team competition along with grabbing some podium finishes on the individual side.”

Tournament number three on the calendar for us this season is perhaps the most important. The Island Championships held at Arbutus Ridge from May 18-19 gives the top two teams the opportunity to play in 2022’s high school golf provincials later on in the month.

Lastly, it’s the big one. Obviously, the provincials May 29-31 at Sandpiper Golf Course just outside of Chilliwack is an event that we has to qualify for. The team however, is feeling confident.

Assistant Coach and Deputy Head of School Mr Sullivan says that ““I think that this golf team could be the best group of players that we have assembled in my time at Brentwood. Our players are seasoned competitors with provincial and national success. However, the most successful teams perform at their best when their best is needed. The team will need to remember that when it comes to team competition this year.”
