Golf Gets Going

6 May 2019

The golf team recently completed a very busy week of competition. With thousands of people visiting Brentwood to participate in the Regatta, five student golfers and their coach left Mill Bay on Sunday to participate in the 2-day Independent School Association (ISA) golf tournament. Over two beautiful days at Cordova Bay GC and Highland Pacific GC, the team of Gavyn K ’22), Lucas K ’22, Mathieu M ’19, Jamie T ’20, and captain Alex C ’19  battled fast greens and stiff competition, posting respectable scores each day and, as a team, finishing 5th in the 8 team field. Individual Brentwood low gross for the tournament was Gavyn with 151. Building off the success of the team’s first tournament of the year, eight Brentwood golfers spent Tuesday and Wednesday participating at the Victoria City Police Golf Tournament at Olympic View GC. Split into two teams of four golfers, both Brentwood teams played strong golf against a field of over 20 teams from both the Island and the Mainland. Individual highlights included personal course best of 75 by Lucas K on Day 1, which led to a fourth overall low gross individual tournament score. Backed by Gavyn’s third overall low gross individual tournament score (on a count back) of 151 (again) and a superb Day 2 round by Jamie T in windy conditions, the team of Sonny A ’20, Jamie, Gavyn and Lucas won the silver medal for team low gross score. Though achieving some individual and team success early in the season is worth celebrating, the real takeaway for the Brentwood golfers was the cementing of their belief in each other and in the collective team of talented and hard-working golfers in our program this year. The golfers will continue to hone their games under the tutelage of the teaching professionals at Cowichan Golf Club in preparation for the AA Island Golf Tournament at Arbutus Ridge on May 23-24.
