Gold for Brentwood Volleyball Team!
This past weekend, the Woodward Sportplex hosted some of the top volleyball teams in the province at the 6th annual Brentwood Senior Girls Invitational Volleyball Tournament. Playing six matches over one and a half days seemed a daunting task, but the girls were up for the challenge and every Brentwood player saw time on the court!
On Friday the tournament opened with a bang as our Brentwood girls gained the lead winning 25-23, 26-24 over the #1 provincially ranked team of St. Thomas Aquinas from North Vancouver. The girls then defeated a feisty Belmont team from Victoria 28-26, 28-26. They finished Friday with an exciting win over a strong team from Dover Bay (25-23, 26-24). On Saturday the girls beat island rivals Lambrick Park in an exciting three set match 25-22, 24-26, 15-13 and then lost in their final round robin game to Timberline of Campbell River 26-24, 22-25, 13-15. These games set up the final which saw these same two teams rematched. This time Brentwood came away with the win and the gold medal with scores of 25-14, 19-25, 15-10. All Star awards went to Indre S. and Stephanie T. and our very own Shelby M was named tournament MVP!
Thanks to the superb support we received throughout the entire tournament from Brentwood students, staff and parents. Next up for the girls is a tournament at Handsworth in North Vancouver Oct. 22-23. Ms. Fougner, Coach
