Go MACrazy!

Saturday, December 3 was the last Open House of the year and it was Mackenzie House! Music blasted through unlit hallways, attracting a menagerie of students “dressed as their type” - this year’s theme.

Some houses have a theme tradition that they repeat each year, such as Ellis’ legendary Casino Night. Most houses, however, like to change things up and experiment with different themes each year, including Mackenzie.

The idea behind the “dress as your type” theme was to come as a person you admire, want to be, or want to be with. Whether you dressed as a skier, skater, or even your favourite celebrity crush, there was a wide-ranging array of attire. Some campus couples took the opportunity to dress up as each other.

One of the most enjoyable parts of planning an Open House is making the video that gets shown at the Assembly before the event - a bit like a trailer to a movie. The video sets the scene for what to expect at the Open House, as well as gives people an idea about what they can wear.

Baller Brad (also known as Mackenzie House Captain Beluchi O) was dressed as “the ultimate hooper”, as “he” humbly stated.

Mack Open House offered the opportunity for students and staff to escape from their regular routine of Brentwood for a few hours and just have some fun. Although the mosh-pit wasn’t bulging at the seams compared to other Open Houses, most people were allured to the attractive Mackenzie dorm rooms. Open House is the one time of the year when all doors are open. It gives the girls the opportunity to show off their rooms, hang out with friends, dance, get photos taken at the photo booth with myriad celebrity cutouts, and, of course, eat pizza!

In the follow-up Prefect meeting, the Grade 12s had a debrief of the exciting night: the only major mistake that was made was the miscalculation of the pizza ordered. “Looks like Mackenzie House will be eating pizza for the rest of the week” Houseparent Ms Cheung mentioned. All the prefects agreed that if that was the only error made, then the Mackenzie Open House had been a success.
